Bitcoin mining site screening checklist

Proton Mining · Version 1.0 · 20 September 2026 · Page 1 of 2

Use one worksheet per physical site to decide what to check next. Engineering approval, confirmed supply and signed rights require separate evidence and work.

Free resource · no account needed

Print this worksheet and write your answers. In the print dialog, choose A4 or Letter at 100% scale; turn off browser headers and footers.

1. Your requirements

Start with your decision

Choose a path: □ Find a new site: record your requirements and already-known/rejected sites. □ Review a site I found: keep its original listing/referral and identify the decision you need to make.

Site / location / original source:

Brief version / review date / reviewed by:

Must-haves: states and sources usable load + unit start / term

Delivered-power price ceiling + currency project capital ceiling + currency

Operating hours / interruption tolerance other hard exclusions

2. Evidence key and source log

Label the evidence

For each answer choose C — Confirmed (the specific fact is supported by reviewed, relevant evidence); R — Reported (an attributed statement awaiting corroboration); U — Unknown; X — Conflict; or N/A (give a reason). A model remains an estimate. Keep facts with different statuses separate.

Next to each answer, record a source link/document, issuer, original measurement or effective date, and date checked. An old measurement stays old when read today. Use an attached evidence log if needed; number its entries to match the checks.

3. Power and costs · checks 1–6

Power and operating cost

Checks 1 to 6: power and operating cost
CheckRecord or ask forStatus / evidence reference
1. Is this the exact site and decision route?Name, address/map, physical-site ID or aliases; owner and operator; business contact, role and source. Who can discuss the asset or refer you? Combine duplicate listings of the same site.Status: Ref:
2. What energy actually exists?Source, operating status, raw fuel versus generated electricity; dated measurements or output logs with units/period. Gas: flow/quality. Hydro/renewables: seasonality. Storage: charging supply and duration. Keep hybrid sources separate.Status: Ref:
3. How much usable power is being offered, and where?Current owner-offered net kW/MW, delivery/meter point, existing allocations, auxiliaries and losses. Separate nameplate, historical output and modeled potential. Unused nameplate does not establish available supply.Status: Ref:
4. Can the supply meet your operating needs?Recent logs, interruptions, maintenance and seasonal limits; expected resource life; proposed operating hours, curtailment notice, restart and backup arrangements. Historical performance and offered commitments are separate answers.Status: Ref:
5. What does the quoted price buy?Issuer, quote/date/expiry, currency and unit; fuel, energy-only or delivered electricity; exact delivery point. Keep the seller's quote, your target and any modeled cost visibly separate.Status: Ref:
6. What costs sit outside that price?Fuel/treatment/charging, generation, maintenance, losses, connection/delivery, demand/standby, taxes/fees and backup. Add fixed charges, deposits, minimum purchase and escalation. List inclusions, exclusions and unknowns; an unknown cost stays blank.Status: Ref:

For each unresolved answer: what document or person could resolve it? Carry the most important question to page 2.

Site / brief version:

Statuses: C Confirmed · R Reported · U Unknown · X Conflict · N/A with reason. Record source, original date and checked date for every substantive answer.

4. Rights and infrastructure · checks 7–12

Rights, infrastructure and remaining work

Checks 7 to 12: rights, infrastructure and remaining work
CheckRecord or ask forStatus / evidence reference
7. Is there a real commercial opening?Attributed owner interest; who controls land, fuel/water, power and delivery access; marketing authority; existing contracts, allocations and exclusivity. Record the actual offer or next authority question. A public contact alone proves no willingness.Status: Ref:
8. Which equipment can you actually use?Generation/conversion, transformers, switchgear/protection, voltage, metering and connection configuration. Request ratings, condition/inspection evidence, use rights and missing works. Record compatibility questions; nearby infrastructure alone proves no connection capacity.Status: Ref:
9. Can the physical site support deployment?Usable pad/building area, truck/winter access, communications and cooling/water where relevant. Record zoning, permits, noise/environmental restrictions and approval status. Maps/photos help locate features; date them and confirm condition or availability separately.Status: Ref:
10. What remains to be funded, owned and operated?Itemized repairs, construction, connection, freight, installation and startup cash; dated quote scopes/exclusions. Name the proposed funder, owner and operator of each item; identify funding evidence and conditions. Keep research fees separate from project capital.Status: Ref:
11. What terms and timing are actually offered?Supply term, start date, approval/procurement route, deadlines and written conditions. List permits, equipment, construction and energization dependencies. Distinguish a requested date from an evidenced schedule or contractual commitment.Status: Ref:
12. Does the evidence meet your must-haves?Check load, location/source, delivered cost, capital, readiness, reliability and timing against the exact brief. List hard mismatches, conflicting claims and missing essentials. Preserve the reasons a site was already known or rejected.Status: Ref:

Choose the next step

Proceed with the next check: no evidenced hard mismatch; one useful question has a reachable answer source and a finite effort limit. This means further investigation only.

Park: a material answer, authority route or funding prerequisite is missing/conflicting, or the agreed research effort is exhausted. Record what new evidence would justify reopening.

Exclude: evidence contradicts a hard requirement. Record the source and reason; reconsider only after relevant evidence or requirements change.

Reason / most important unresolved question:

Next document or person / responsible person / effort limit:
